Do you know the difference between H2 Blockers and Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)?
Watch this quick video and find out!
In this video I share a concept map that my student recently made on how to remember the medications used to treat Gastro-Esophageal Disease (GERD).
I love how this student condensed several lecture slides into a 1 page concept map and highlighted the 2 drug classes we use to treat GERD: H2 Blockers and PPIs.
Her map included these MUST know concepts about H2 Blockers and PPIs:
𝗛𝟮 𝗕𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿𝘀:
--all end in tidine
--famotidine, nizatidine, cimetidine
--Reduce gastric acid production by blocking histamine 2 release
--less aggressive compared to PPIs
--may be used lifelong
--well tolerated (except cimetidine in elderly!)
𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗜𝗻𝗵𝗶𝗯𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘀 (𝗣𝗣𝗜):
--all end in prazole
--omeprazole, esomeprazole, lansoprazole
--Reduce gastric acid production by blocking the gastric proton pump
--more aggressive compared to H2 blockers
--should be limited to 8 weeks or less, otherwise potential for adverse effects
The best concept maps are the ones that are MEMORABLE! Don't limit yourself to learning from your notes, powerpoint and flashcards. Change your study strategies, CHANGE YOUR LIFE.
